Curriculum
DuBois Christian Schools is currently
using the A Beka and Bob Jones curriculum. The program
provides instruction for:

Phonics, progressing from letter recognition,
sounds, and special sounds to blends and word reading,
sentence reading and, finally, reading beginner
books.

Number recognition 1-100 and number value;
counting by ones, fives and tens to 100; simple
addition and subtraction; telling time - “o’clock”; as well as
other skills.
|
 |
Science & Social Studies units are interwoven
throughout the year.
|
 |
Art
activities are designed to encourage creativity
and increase fine motor control.
|
 |
Physical Education & Music classes,
including a beginner bell choir, are offered
weekly.
|
 |
Kindergarten parents are encouraged to take part
in class parties, field trips, special projects
and units. |
A Typical Day at DCS Kindergarten
Monday - Friday
 |
Short free time as children arrive by 8:15 a.m.
|
 |
An
opening, including pledges, calendar and prayer.
|
 |
Bible lessons, also involving Scripture and
catechism
memorization.
|
 |
Snack, provided by parents.
|
 |
Morning instructional time, including games,
movement, music, and morning seat work. Reading
circle is added in the second half of the year.
|
 |
Lunch in the cafeteria with other elementary
children.
|
 |
Afternoon recess on the play ground, in the gym,
or in the classroom.
|
 |
Story/rest time (longer at the beginning of the
year and gradually decreasing toward the end of
the year).

 |
Short instructional period (review) or directed
free time.
|
 |
Dismissal at 3:00 p.m. |
Kindergarten Screening
To determine the
readiness of a child to enter kindergarten, DCS
administers developmental screening each spring. The
screening generally takes 30 to 40 minutes and involves
observation by the teacher of the following areas:

Registration
You can schedule your child’s
kindergarten readiness screening by contacting the
school office at 814-371-7395. Please keep in mind that,
in order to register for DCS kindergarten:

Children must be five years of age before
September 1st.
|
 |
Children must have the minimum doses of
immunizations required by state law before the
beginning of the school year.
|
 |
DCS
requires and administers
developmental screening for all potential
kindergarten students. To schedule screening,
contact the school office.
|
 |
Obtain enrollment application, parental forms
and student health forms by contacting the
school office.
|
A family interview is required before
the start of the school year and can be arranged by
contacting the school office.

appointment, please bring with you:
